Who We Are

Tens of Thousands of Jobs in Question

Our Nightlife Queensland represents people from across the state who rely on licensed venues and associated industries for their livelihood. We are caterers, cleaners, bar staff, security, managers and small business owners. We want to work with the Government to find a way to implement the necessary reforms without harming the 7200 licensed venues in Queensland and their employees.

What is the lockout?

The Labor Government wants to introduce a 1am Lockout, a 3am Close and no shots after 11:59pm. It’s a blanket policy to punish the 1 in 10,000 people who behave badly. We think there is a better way to target the real problems without threatening Queensland’s night time entertainment culture and tourism economy.

Help us work with the government to create meaningful solutions that are best for all Queenslanders.  Raise your voice and be heard.

Queensland Night Time Economy

When the sun goes down and the lights come on, a whole new sector of our economy comes to life. The night time economy is estimated to be worth more than $10 billion in Queensland and is vital to our status as the Tourism State. It’s important to protect our night time entertainment culture.

There are over 7200 licensed venues in Queensland, and they are all interconnected in a complex ecosystem of entertainment experiences. We want to work cooperatively with the Government to implement safety initiatives that work for all Queenslanders and keep our night time economy strong.

As an industry group, we have worked hard to create a safe and prosperous nightlife full of rich cultural experiences for the public and ourselves. Working closely with government and police we have created an environment where business can flourish while working harmoniously towards a Safe Night Out Plan and creating fun and exciting experiences for patrons.

With over 50,000 people employed in the night time economy a dramatic change in trading hours will harm their livelihoods and ability to support their families.
